Settings in Roma

What each Settings page holds, on every device Roma runs on.

Settings is where you tell Roma how to look, what to notify you about, which apps it may reach and what the operator may do without asking. In the browser and in the Mac app it is one page with a rail of ten sections. On your iPhone it is a stack of cards, one per page. A setting that belongs to the account, such as your timezone or the operator's permissions, applies on every device. A few belong to the device you set them on, such as whether Favorites shows in the sidebar.

Where to find Settings

In the browser and in the Mac app, Settings is the first row of the menu that shows your name and email. Every settings page is also a row in the command palette: press ⌘K and type the page's name. On your iPhone, tap your photo or name at the top of any tab.

General

The first page, in four sections.

  • Display. Appearance is System, Light, Dark, or Color with a background color of your choice. The Mac app adds a Sync across devices switch, so the appearance either follows your account to every device or applies to this Mac alone, and an App icon row for the icon in the Dock. Timezone, with a Detect button, is used for today's window, due dates and automation schedules. First day of week sets the due-date calendar to Monday or Sunday.

  • AI Editing. How Roma edits what you dictate, and whether it tidies what you type. Clean up what I type tidies the title of a new item, reads its due date out of the words and fills its properties, on every list. Level is Light (typos and grammar only), Standard (clear sentences and paragraphs) or Synthesize (merged and condensed). Voice is Keep my voice or Neutral. The AI editing article walks through each.

  • Sidebar. A switch per section of the sidebar: Tasks, Automations, Lists, Favorites, Shared with me, and each section of lists you made. A section you keep on shows even while it is empty. Lists and the sections you made are your account's and show the same on your iPhone. Tasks, Automations, Favorites and Shared with me are this device's, so each of your devices can differ there.

  • Tasks & Notes. Show overdue tasks as today. When on, a task past its due date reads as due today and the operator counts it among today's tasks. When off, it keeps its real date, marked overdue.

The Mac app adds two sections: Startup, with Open at login, and About, with the app's version and a Check for Updates button.

Notifications

Reminder time is when a reminder fires for a task that has a date but no time. Then the push switches, in two groups, Reminders and work, and Shared tasks and notes, with How often pacing the shared group. The operator messages you in your conversation, everything else lands in Updates behind the bell, and these switches choose what also notifies your iPhone and Mac. The notification settings article covers every row.

Connections

The apps you connect (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Linear, Notion, GitHub, Slack, Granola, Reddit, X) and, under each, what Roma may do with that app. The page also holds the other direction: Connect your AI to Roma, the door for ChatGPT, Claude, Codex and any app that speaks MCP, and API keys for an agent that cannot sign in. Start with connect an app to Roma and API keys.

Permissions

Which of the operator's own actions run on their own, which ask first, and which it may never use. The permissions article lists the groups and the defaults.

Experts

Your experts, one row per expert. Content Editor, Devil's Advocate and Wordsmith come built in. Add your own, then type @ and its name in any chat. See experts.

Memory

What Roma knows about you: a summary you can read, ask about or correct, your standing instructions, and the connected apps it learns from. See memory.

Shortcuts

Every keyboard shortcut, by category: Navigation, Tasks, Tabs, Selection, Undo and Editor. In the Mac app the page opens with Capture, where you record the Quick chat hotkey and the hold to talk key. See keyboard shortcuts and quick chat and hold to talk.

Import

Bring your tasks in from Todoist, from Things (in the Mac app) or from Apple Reminders (in the Mac app and on the iPhone). See import your tasks.

Event Log

Everything that has happened to your tasks, notes and lists, newest first, with Revert on a line that kept the earlier value. See the Event Log.

Account

Your email, your first and last name, Sign Out for this device, and Delete account. See delete your account.

Settings on the iPhone

The iPhone keeps the same settings as cards: the account card with Manage account and Sign out, then Agents (how to connect an outside agent), Display, Navigation (which sections sit in the tab bar and in More), Action Button, AI and Dictation (the AI Editing rows plus the dictation mode), Tasks & Notes (Archived, Completed tasks, Show overdue tasks as today), Notifications, Connections, Import, Permissions and Event Log, then News, Changelog, Rate Roma and Provide Feedback. Settings on the iPhone goes card by card.

Questions people ask

Do my settings follow me between the Mac and the iPhone?

Most do. Your timezone, first day of week, AI Editing choices, notification switches, permissions, connections, experts and memory belong to the account and apply everywhere. A few belong to the device: the sidebar's Tasks, Automations, Favorites and Shared with me switches, the app icon, the Action Button's mode, and the appearance when you turn its Sync across devices switch off in the Mac app.

Where are the Experts page and the Memory page?

Both are pages of Settings. In the browser and in the Mac app they sit in the rail after Permissions. On the iPhone, each is a row of the More tab that you switch on under Settings → Navigation.

Which settings are in the Mac app alone?

Open at login, the About section with Check for Updates, the App icon row, the Sync across devices switch on Appearance, the Capture section of Shortcuts, and the Things import. Roma in the browser cannot register a hotkey or read a file on your Mac, so those rows appear in the Mac app alone.
