Notion in Roma
Read pages into a task, and update a Notion database by asking.
Connect Notion and your operator can search your workspace, read a page into the work at hand, and add or update rows in a Notion database when you ask. "Mark The Matrix as Watched in Movies" finds Movies, reads which properties it has and updates the row. You choose which pages Roma can see when you connect.
What the operator does in Notion
Mara keeps her recipes in Notion. "Show me the mango recipe" finds the page and reads it out. "Create a task from it with the ingredients as subtasks" creates a task on her Tasks list, with the ingredients as a checklist in its body, the way the body of a task holds one.
"Add The Predator to Movies" finds that Notion database by name, reads its properties and the options each select offers, and writes the row, with a link to the new page in the conversation. "Mark it as watched" against the options Watching, Watched and Want to watch is clear, so the operator acts. "Mark it as good", with no option that matches, gets a question back: Liked, Recommended, or something else? "Add a note to my Today page about the call" appends content to the page. "Comment on the spec page: shipped" comments, asking first. The operator can also create a page, and archive one, which asks first.
For reading, it searches pages and Notion databases by name, reads a page's content, and reads a Notion database's properties, its rows or one row. A long page is read in parts, and the operator asks before going on. What it finds shows as a card listing the pages and rows, each opening in Notion.
Which pages Roma can see
Notion grants access page by page. When you connect, Notion's picker asks which pages and Notion databases to share with Roma, and only those are visible to the operator. If it says it cannot find something you can see, the page was not shared. In Notion, open that page or Notion database, press the three-dot menu at the top right, choose Connections and add the connection Roma uses. Or reconnect from Roma and tick it in the picker. The picker shows only pages you have full access to, and a Notion database nested inside a shared page may need to be shared on its own.
Pinned Notion databases
The first time the operator writes to a Notion database, Roma pins it. The next time you ask, it is found without a search, so a write takes fewer steps. The connection's page in Settings lists the pinned ones, each with an × to unpin. The list is on the Mac and in the browser.
What asks first, and what it never does
Reading, adding a row, updating a row, creating a page and adding content run when you ask. A comment and an archive ask first, with a card, unless you set Sending or Deleting to Always allow on the connection's page. The operator never alters the structure of a Notion database: its properties and their options are yours. It never deletes anything outright: an archive is Notion's soft delete, not a permanent one. Notion is not where your tasks live. Tasks stay on your lists in Roma, and a Notion write is something you ask for.
How to connect
Open Settings → Connections and press Notion. Sign in with Notion in the window that opens, pick the pages to share, and close the page when it says Connected. The row carries a green check, and its page shows the pinned Notion databases and the permissions. The iPhone's Settings → Connections carries the same row. The general steps are in Connect an app to Roma, and the public page is /connections/notion.
How to disconnect
Settings → Connections, press Notion, then Disconnect. Roma loses its access at once, and the pinned list goes with it. Rows and pages you added stay in Notion.
Questions people ask
Why does the operator say it cannot find a Notion database I can see?
Because it was not shared with the connection. Notion shows Roma only the pages you picked when connecting, and a page inside a shared page may need sharing on its own. In Notion, open it, press the three-dot menu, choose Connections and add the connection, or reconnect from Roma and tick it.
Will it ask before writing a row?
Adding and updating rows run when you ask, with the result in the conversation and a link to the row. Set Creating or Updating to Ask first on the connection's page to get a card before each write. Comments and archives ask first by default.
Can the operator read a whole page?
Yes, in parts. It reads a page's content and tells you what it found, and on a long page it asks before reading further.
Does it work with several Notion workspaces?
One workspace per connection, the one you choose when you sign in.
