Widgets, the Lock Screen and Controls
Your tasks on the Home Screen and Lock Screen, and two buttons for Roma.
The Tasks widget puts your tasks on the Home Screen and, in smaller faces, on the Lock Screen. Two Controls, New task and Talk to Roma, go in Control Center, in the Lock Screen's two bottom slots and on the Action Button. All of it comes with the iPhone app, and the widget gallery lists it once you have opened Roma once.
The Tasks widget
It comes in the three Home Screen sizes, and in the extra large one where iOS 27 offers it. It is your tasks drawn like the app's compact row: the status glyph on the left, the title beside it, as many rows as fit. The wide and large sizes carry a round + bottom right, which opens Roma on the Tasks tab with the New task row open and the keyboard up, and a mic top right, which opens Roma recording, the Action Button's own path. Tap a row and that task opens. Tap anywhere else and the list the widget shows opens. The small size has no buttons: one tap opens the list.
Long-press the widget and choose Edit Widget for its two choices. Show is All tasks, or one list that keeps a status and a due date, the Tasks list among them, or a list someone shared with you. Sort is Same as the app, Due date, Status, Date added or Last edited. Several widgets can sit side by side, each showing a different list.
The widget follows the app within a second or two of a change, and its day labels flip at midnight on their own. Signed out, it says "Sign in to Roma to see your tasks". An empty list shows that list's own empty line, and a list that no longer exists says "This list is no longer here". The Smart Stack brings the widget up when something is due today. Nothing is ticked off from the widget: tap the row and complete the task in Roma.
The Lock Screen faces
The same widget takes the Lock Screen's shapes, added through the Lock Screen's customize mode. Above the clock, its inline line: "3 tasks today" when something is due or overdue, "12 tasks" otherwise, "All clear" when the list is empty, "Sign in to Roma" when you are signed out. Below the clock, in the widget row: its rectangle, with the list's name and count over the next two rows and the same Show and Sort choices, and two circles, a plus and a mic inside Roma's frame, which open the New task row and the operator recording. Everything renders in the Lock Screen's monochrome, the status reading as a shape, and each face is one tap: the line and the rectangle open the list they show, the circles their doors.
The two Controls
New task and Talk to Roma are listed under Roma in the controls gallery. Put them in Control Center, in the Lock Screen's two bottom slots where the flashlight and the camera sit, or on the Action Button, where they read "Hold to create a task" and "Hold to talk to Roma". On the Lock Screen a Control shows its symbol alone: a plus, a mic.
Press New task and Roma opens on the Tasks tab with the New task row open and the keyboard up. Press Talk to Roma and Roma opens recording. A locked phone asks for Face ID first, and the app's screen never shows on the lock. They are the same two doors as the widget's buttons, pressed from somewhere else. The Tasks tab is where the New task row lives, and Create a task describes what happens when you type into it.
The Dynamic Island
While a take with the operator is live and you leave the app, the Dynamic Island shows Roma's icon on the left and the time on the right, counting by itself. Press and hold it and the row opens: "Listening" over the time, a muted X that drops the take, and a white Send pill. A tap opens the chat. With the Action Button set to talk without opening Roma, the island is the whole take: press, talk, press again to send.
Questions people ask
Can I complete a task from the widget?
No. The widget shows your tasks and opens them. Tap the row, and the task opens in Roma with its status control, where one tap completes it. Voice and dictation on the iPhone covers the mic the widget's button starts.
Can the widget show one list only?
Yes. Long-press it, choose Edit Widget, and set Show to the list you want. Any list that keeps a status and a due date is offered, your own and the ones shared with you, and a second widget can show another list.
Why is the widget not in the gallery?
The gallery lists an app's widgets only after the app has been opened once since it was installed. Open Roma, go back to the Home Screen, and add the widget.
Why does the widget say "Sign in to Roma"?
You are signed out on this phone. Sign in, and the widget picks your tasks up within a second or two.
