Share to Roma from any app

Share a page, a post, text or photos, and say what Roma should do with it.

Roma is in the iPhone's share sheet for images, links and text. Share a page from Safari, a post, a paragraph from the Notes app or a few photos, and Roma opens on your conversation with the operator, with what you shared in the chat bar and the keyboard up. Nothing is sent until you say what you want done with it.

How it works

  1. In any app, tap Share and choose Roma. If Roma is not in the row, scroll to More, switch it on, and drag it where you want it.

  2. Roma opens on the Operator tab. The shared text and the link are in the chat bar, the photos are attached to it, and the keyboard is up.

  3. Say what you want: "save this for Friday", "summarize this", "add it to my reading list", "remember this". Send.

A draft you had already typed in the chat bar stays on top, and the shared text goes under it.

Noor sends Mara a link to a venue. Mara shares it from Messages to Roma, types "add this to the wedding list with a note to call them Monday", and sends. The operator adds the item to the list, and the call is on her Tasks list with Monday on it.

What arrives in the chat bar

  • The link is the first web address among what was shared, or the first one found in the text.

  • The text is the words that were shared, with the link taken out and the spacing tidied, up to 2,000 characters.

  • The photos are up to three, resized for the chat bar. The share sheet accepts up to ten, and the first three come along.

Nothing is invented. There is no title, no summary and no reading of the page until you ask for it. Once you say what you want, the operator fetches the page or the post itself, the way it does with anything you say to it.

When Roma is not running

The share works from a cold start: Roma launches straight onto the conversation with the shared things in the bar. A share Roma could not open at the time waits for your next visit, for ten minutes, so a share from an hour ago never surprises an unrelated open.

Why every share goes to the operator

Every share goes to the operator, by design. The operator already knows how to title a task, read a date out of your words, file something on a list and remember things, so there is one way to capture instead of two, and you say in your own words what the share is for. The share extension itself holds no sign-in and talks to no server: it hands the share to the app and nothing else.

Questions people ask

Can I create a task from the share sheet without opening Roma?

No. Every share lands in the chat bar, unsent, for you to say what it is: a task for Friday, a note, an item on a list. How to use the operator shows what a sentence to it can do, and Create a task what Roma reads out of one.

Does sharing send anything by itself?

No. The share lands in the chat bar with the keyboard up, and nothing leaves until you send.

How do I share something to Roma on the Mac?

The Mac app has no share sheet. Paste the link or the text into the operator's composer, or into quick chat from any app with ⌃⌥N, which takes a pasted screenshot too.

How many photos can I share at once?

The share sheet offers Roma for up to ten images, and the chat bar attaches the first three. Share the rest in a second share.
